Emergency First Aid at Work & Forestry
First Aid at Work training today for a safer Tomorrow
Emergency First Aid at Work & Forestry Training Course One Day
BeSure Trainings Emergency First Aid at Work +F (Forestry) course satisfies the requirements of the regulatory body for First Aid - the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). All learners will have the skills and knowledge to provide the organisation with Emergency First Aider’s that can provide treatment to their casualties in a prompt, safe and effective manner. The Forestry commission changed the requirements and now statutory first aid qualifications in line with latest (November 2015) Forestry Commission First Aid Policy (+F) when based on your individual risk assessment.
This then means that on top of the First Aid at Work (FAW) & Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification there is an additional requirement for training. We start learning to identify factors to consider when planning ahead for an emergency. They must also understand what actions are required to keep their casualty safe when medical assistance is more than 30 minutes away. Learners will be able to recognize a casualty with a crush injury and identify how to administer first aid for a casualty suffering from a crush injury depending on the length of time they have been crushed. They will learn to be able to both recognize and treat moderate hypothermia in the field. Delegates will learn to use haemostatic dressings/agents & tourniquets demonstrating how to control catastrophic bleeding using direct pressure, haemostatic dressings/agents, tourniquets and manage a casualty suffering from hypovolaemic shock completing each step listed within the scenario on the Practical Assessment Record. Finally we will learn to recognize suspected Lyme disease and identify how to prevent being bitten and administer first aid for a tick bite, using suitable tools and methods to remove the parasites.
A minimum of 7 contact hours in the classroom, consisting of practical and theoretical activities, plus some pre-course activity could be required.
A range of subjects are covered on top of those additional above including:-
• Responsibilities and reporting
• Resuscitation and AED awareness
• Assessment of the situation
• Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
• Minor injuries
• Basic hygiene in First Aid
• Bleeding control
• Shock Certification
• Lymes Disease
• Haemostatic dressings/agents & Tourniquets

Practical assessment is ongoing by the instructor, and a three year qualification will be issued to those who satisfy the criteria. In addition, the HSE strongly recommend that all students undergo an annual refresher programme of three hours Numbers A maximum of 12 students are allowed and must be a minimum of 14 years of age and a certificate can be offered to all, subject to assessment. A student cannot assume a responsibility in the workplace until they reach the age of 16, and then it is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that the student is suitable for that role.
